Old Forgotten Lore is my first song release under my own name, Keith O Brien. After playing with Irish language band Seo Linn for years, and making several pseudonym projects such as Kobara and Jersey Man, this is the first of songs from the style of music I love to make the most.

The music video was shot in Kells Priory and the Hole in the Wall, both in county Kilkenny. Check it out on YouTube.

I went out a walking
Early in the morning
Though the frost had fallen
Warm I was to find

I remembered Grandad O Brien
Who sat there in his armchair
With Granny by his side
Telling stories
A fire was lit
And those winter evenings
I don't think Ill ever forget.

So take me out to Galway
Like we did the old days
Galavanting, horseplay
Better than before.

And the ocean,
Waves of time,
Whispering softly
As the bonfire burns high,
And a sing-song,
Good and loud,
The cold won’t defeat us
As morning peeks through the clouds

And the wise say don’t be looking back
At days that came before.
But I have always had a thirst
For old forgotten lore.
It’s not that tomorrow throws a shadow over me
It’s just yesterdays a storybook I cherish to read.

Mist upon the mountains
As the night surrounds us
Lighting up the hearts
of those that walk the streets.

Generations
Here and gone,
Walked on these flagstones
As time trundled along,
Full of memories,
Dreams and songs,
Silent as snowfall,
But loudly
Their gifts live on.
